Excellent rally, everyone!

25 03 2008

The rally/tintamarre here in Saint John earlier today went off well. The crowd was noisy and spirited, the speakers were passionate, and the weather was bright. The highlight was young EFI student Hannah, who read out a letter she wrote, in French, to the Minister. Not a bad turn-out either, especially after a holiday weekend and a snow day on Thursday.

Hope to see you in Fredericton on Thursday. And remember, buses are traveling from Moncton, Sackville, Saint John and Sussex.

Thinking of slogans

24 03 2008

for placards for the demonstrations tomorrow and Thursday. Off the top of my head:

  • One size fits none
  • Choice for New Brunswick students
  • Listen to parents
  • Listen to kids
  • What’s the rush, Kelly?
  • Don’t turn back the clock
  • Kelly: “Don’t bother me with the facts!”
  • Bilingualism is more than a slogan
  • Say “oui” to French!

From my seven-year-old EFI son:

  • Keep French Immersion
  • Kids like learning other languages
  • Kids like French

Please add suggestions in the comments!

Get out the word!

21 03 2008

tintamarre.jpgWe need to do as much as possible in the next couple of days to build the Saint John Rally for Choice in Education in King’s Square, Saint John, at noon on Tuesday March 25.

Talk to your friends, families, and co-workers. Use your networks. Build a contingent from your organization or group and bring a banner. Make some signs that let this government know the importance of education for New Brunswick children.

For updates or to get involved check out the Facebook page or email kawfolks@gmail.com.

Below the fold is a copy of a press release that was sent out to New Brunswick media: Read the rest of this entry »

Some recent media stories

20 03 2008

Here is an interesting news story: “Ottawa urged to put $1-billion into official languages” (Globe and Mail, March 20/08). Talk about being out of step!

In local news, four Saint John doctors are considering leaving the region because of the loss of early French immersion; this at a time when New Brunswick is crying for doctors. It does make you wonder if the different government ministers even talk to one-another.
