Letter from parents of a Kindergartener
20 03 2008Dear Mr. Kershaw:We are writing to you as parents of a child enrolled in grade one in the Early French Immersion program at Loch Lomond Elementary School in Saint John for September 2008. We were requested by the school and district to have our registration in by a certain date which with we complied. At no time was it ever communicated to us by the school or district that that the availability of this program was going to be in question. This registration was a contract duly signed and entered into and we expect the contract to be fulfilled.
Kindergarteners enrolled for grade one in September 2008 at the time this decision was forced on New Brunswick should be grandfathered into the program.
We await your action in this matter before joining force with other kindergartener parents in exploring our legal options.
Respectfully,
Paula and Raymond Small

Of course you were not told, they were not allowed to say anything and still not allowed to say anything. Even if this affects their own children, they have to sit in silence and hope and pray that we do something about it. The Minister of Education blind sided so many people. Everyone just assumed that if they had their kids registered it was still a go.
My son is also in this same position. I now have to explain to him, that the past year of getting up extra early to take the school bus across the city has been completely wasted. I have to tell him that he’s not going to learn any French like his 11 year sister until he’s in Grade 5. I have to now tell him, he has to go to a whole new school next year and won’t see the majority of his friends anymore. Am I happy about this? NO! I know we will have many tears when the time comes to tell him. (btw- the two holding hands on the banner above are 2 of my 4 kids on their first day of school this past fall)
